Dover Plains NY Real Estate

Dover Plains was first inhabited by the Native American Schaghticoke tribe.  The earliest settler was Richard Sackett and was granted a patent for the land in 1704.  The land began more settled by the1730s when an agreement granted the town 2 square miles of land from Connecticut.  In 1807, New York legislature separated about 26,000 square acres from Pawling thus creating the town of Dover. In the 1850s, the Metro North Railroad Harlem line made it to the town and allowed for easier and faster transportation.  Many people chose to move to Dover Plains for its beautiful scenery and rural character.

Dover Plains has a train station on the Metro North Harlem line and is conveniently located right of Route 22.
