Carmel NY Real Estate
In 1795, the town of Carmel was taken from Frederickstown. Carmel was named after the biblical Mount Carmel in Palestine because of its resemblance of high forests and fertile valleys. During the American Revolution, Sybil Ludington rode her horse 40 miles to summon her father’s militia to fight for independence. A statue stands on the shore of Lake Gleneida to commemorate her ride. In 1814, the historic Putnam County Courthouse was built and is the second oldest working courthouse in New York State.
Today, Carmel is the county seat and has over 33,000 residents. Almost all Carmel NY Real Estate are near movie theatre, Stop and Shop, great retail stores and fine restaurants. It is close to both of Metro North’s Train stations, Brewster and Southeast and an hour and a half to New York City.
